Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Palestine Academy of Science and Technology has virtually held the 2nd  episode of Exploring Science Program, with Dr. Muneera Fayyad, on The hair follicle: unlocking the potential of regenerative medicine, in the middle of a remarkable interaction of students, who are interested in Science, Technology and Innovation

This episode was moderated by the students Zaina Halabi from Nablus Industrial Secondary School and Osama Abu Hassan from Al Salaheya Secondary school  at the Directorate of Education – Nablus - Ministry of Education.

Dr. Fayyad discussed the effects of aging on cellular health and how that reflects on age-related diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, and neurodegeneration. The lecture also focused on highlighting advances in regenerative medicine and the potential of stem cells in treating many of the aforementioned diseases. The lecture was also discussed the hair follicle as a promising heterogeneous stem cell source and shed light on its utility in regenerative medicine.

Dr. Muneera Fayyad is a Research specialist  at Acorn Biotech - Toronto, Canada, she got her master's degree in biological and biomedical sciences at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Qatar & her PhD in medical sciences & Neuroscience with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases, at the same university. She previously worked as a researcher at the University of Waterloo in Canada and is currently working as a specialized researcher at Acorn Biotechnology in Canada. She leads a research team focusing on the study of stem cells extracted from the hair follicle and their uses in regenerative medicine as a non-invasive source of stem cells.
The meeting lasted for one and half hours, during which the students excelled in their enthusiasm and distinguished questions, which confirm the advanced level that our students have reached in critical thinking, scientific and social awareness, and their effort and academic excellence.
