Medical & Health Sciences Division

This initiative to establish the Medical & Health Sciences division at PALAST  comes as a result of Dr. Duha Shellah recognition as one of the world's 21 outstanding young physicians below age 40 at the inter-Academy partnership (IAP) in 2022 . Dr. Shellah is the first Palestinian physician to be awarded in the program. IAP encourages this step to be done in Palestine, with the coordination of Dr. Duha Shellah.

Who We are

The Medical & Health Sciences is a newly founded division at  Palestine Academy for Science and Technology (PALAST), which is a national independent, self-governing  institution that acts as a catalyst for the advancement of science, technology and innovation in Palestine. Since its Establishment in 1994,  the Academy has worked in collaboration  with all stakeholders  from academia, government and private sector at national, regional and international levels to promote science and scientific research.
 

PALAST is committed to advancing knowledge and finding solutions to the challenges facing the Palestinian people. With this aim in mind, PALAST has decided to establish a Medical & Health Sciences division to focus on the important issues related to medical and health sciences field practices, research and policy in Palestine.


Vision

The vision of the Medical & Health Sciences Division  is to promote health and well-being for all Palestinian people through scientific research, innovation, and collaboration.


Mission

The mission of the Medical & Health Sciences Division is to support the development of evidence-based policies, strategies, and programs that address the health needs of the Palestinian people.  The division will accomplish this mission through:

  1. Disseminating knowledge: Medical & health Sciences division will disseminate research findings and knowledge through publications, conferences, workshops, and other forms of outreach.
  2. Building capacity: The Medical & Health Sciences Division  will build the capacity of researchers, health professionals, and policymakers in Palestine to conduct and use research.
  3. Conducting research: The Medical & Health Sciences Division will conduct research on a wide range of health issues, including disease prevention and control, health promotion, and health system strengthening.
  4. Advocating for health: The Medical & Health Sciences Division will advocate for policies and strategies that promote health and well-being for all Palestinian people.

Objectives: 

The Medical & Health Sciences Division will work to achieve the following objectives, in accordance with the objectives of the Inter Academy Partnership:

  1. Foster international scientific cooperation: The Medical & Health Sciences Division will promote international scientific cooperation by collaborating with other national and international health research organizations.
  2. Promote capacity building: The Medical & Health Sciences Division will promote capacity building by supporting education and training programs for health professionals, researchers, and policymakers.
  3. Advise policymakers: The Medical & Health Sciences Division will provide evidence-based advice to policymakers on health-related issues.
  4. Communicate with the public: The Medical & Health Sciences Division will communicate with the public about health-related issues, including disease prevention and control, health promotion, and health system strengthening.

Conclusion:

The establishment of the The Medical & Health Sciences Division of PALAST is a major step towards promoting health and well-being for all Palestinians. The Medical & Health Sciences Division in accordance with the vision, mission, and objectives of the Inter Academy Partnership, and will work to promote scientific research, innovation, and collaboration in the field of health. The Medical & Health Sciences Divion will also advocate for policies and strategies that promote health and well-being for all Palestinians, and will build the capacity of researchers, health professionals, and policymakers in Palestine to conduct and use research.
